RE: V-10 owners in 36ft or bigger????

We have the motor home in sig and have had good performance from the V10. A 400 hp DP would be better because the engine would be in the rear, that is our big complaint, the engine noise when it is climbing the hills, but even coming and going from Durango it was only a couple of times for a few minutes. Donna Texas, Casa Del Sol RV Resort

I would like some opinions on this park from any one that is currently staying there or has recently stayed there. We drove through and looked at the rec hall, pool, shuffle board and other ammenities. Also talked to the managers, they seemed real nice and friendly. We would be interested in the 50 Amp RV sites. Thanks for any info. Lou

RE: A CAMPGROUND WITHOUT HOLIDAY SPIRIT ?????

MY POINT was any evidence obtained by police needs to stand up to a review by a court and courts have been known to throw out evidence obtained by police going through a suspects trash not properly obtained. I suppose you could press charges and have your nosy neighbor arrested (actually ticketed) I have called the police and had a ticket issued when a person refused to believe they could not take the aluminum from the City's recycling bins! As long as the solid waste is placed on YOUR PROPERTY not on the City Right-Of-Way...if placed there you have offered it up for grabs, that is the reason that the recycling bins had to be marked "Property of City of XXX"! RE: A CAMPGROUND WITHOUT HOLIDAY SPIRIT ?????

As a retired Solid Waste Supervisor for a large city, let me explain some things. Recyclables PLACED AT THE CURB in city recycling bins belong to whomever takes them UNLESS the bins are labeled as "Property of XXXXXXX", then it is theft if they are removed by other than an autherized agent of the container owner. Solid waste placed within the right-of-way(at the curb or edge of the apparent traveled way) are fair game also. IF placed in a "haul-a-way container" ON PRIVATE PROPERTY it is the property of the OWNER OF THE PROPERTY until collected by the "agent". I went through this many times in the 15 years I was in this position both with the theft of recyclables and the collection of "trash" for investigation by law enforcement authorities. Lou

RE: Tent camping in the RGV

I have seen tents in our park here in Mission, it is Mission Gardens RV Resort and is on Expressway 83. I am not sure how or if they adjust the rates. When we first got here in October there was several "Minute Men" staying in tents. Lou

RE: Million $ Highway - Ouray to Silverton, CO 550

We spent the summer working in Durango and made the round trip from Durango to Ouray a dozen times. That is a total of 24 trips up and down this road. Of ALL those trips I had 1 (ONE) where a driver coming the other way didn't try to share my lane AND it usually happened more than once each trip. The road is a narrow two lane that IF everyone that drove it stayed in there own lane would be perfectly safe, but that is NOT the case. I can react quickly enough with the VUE, but I am not sure that is true in the motor home towing the VUE. Oh and by the way more often than not the person trying to share my lane was either a motor home towing,a 5th wheel or a semi. The drivers don't seem to understand that the rear of their vehicle crosses the center line by 2 - 3 foot when they hug the center line with the front tires. The road is good, unfortunately many of the drivers using it are not! Lou

RE: Traveling from Texas to Omaha through Kansas

I don't know what kind of RV you have but, the Bellevue bridge is very old, narrow and not enjoyable to drive a car across. If I traveled all the way to Nebraska City on 75 I would stay on it to Bellevue, it is only another 25 - 30 miles. Crossing on I80 and getting off on 13th Street and heading south is also not bad, since the Kennedy Freeway has been opened there is very little traffic on 13th street from Omaha to Bellevue. I would NOT stay at Dodge Park in the Omaha area either. There are several state recreation areas (Two Rivers & Louisville) and 1 park (Mahoney StatePark) and 2 private campgrounds (West Omaha KOA and Pine Grove)on the west side of Omaha. The way we go from the Valley to Omaha is up US 281 to I35 to US 81 to I80. All good road and mostly 4 lane. Lou

RE: RGV Ain't Windy

As I sit here in Mission, Texas today I would say we have a light breeze of MAYBE 5 MPH. My flag "half heartedly" gives a little half spin and then quits. A little more breeze would be appreciated. Lou

RE: Cold Weather Plumbing Issue

For a few nights at 20 degrees shouldn't be a problem. However, when we worked at a campground the first winter we workamped, the problem we found that was the worst was the sewer lines freezing solid after a week of not getting above freezing. The campground water lines and camper hoses were "heat traced" so they were good but the gray water would freeze just a little each time some ran down the sewer line until there was just a small opening, then it would freeze solid and make a real mess. We found that IF you were going to stay where it "gets cold and stays cold for a week or more" you needed to insulate and heat trace the sewer line also. No big deal a 20' heat tape and some insulation and you were good to go. We would put a layer of fiberglass insulation on the sewer hose first then the heat tape then more insulation, the cheap heat tape CAN get hot enough to melt the cheap sewer hoses. Lou

RE: RVG how big is it ??

The news channels call Rio Grande City part of the "Valley", and it goes clear to Brownsville on the "Lower End". The map I have in front of me that you can get at the visitor centers down here called "The Rio Grande Valley Map". Goes from Brownsville to Penitas and north to Sebastian, but really Texas 107 appears to be the north end of the Valley. Lou

RE: Cheyenne WY CGs

The campground that was the KOA is no longer a KOA as of April 2008, I'm not sure if is even a campground any more. As for Frontier Days, many stay as far away as Kimball, Nebraska. MANY MANY people go to Frontier Days. Lou

RE: Gas prices enroute to south Texas

Believe this or not we saw $2.08 per gallon here in Mission on our way to our winter home. Just off of Expressway 83. WOW!!!!! Lou

RE: Gate keeping. Where do we apply..

We saw what we believe are "Gate Guards" today coming down 281 between I 37 and Falfurious. One was a fifth wheel and the other was a motorhome. Kinda out in the middle of no where, but nice and quiet. Lou

RE: OH to SD...route....and how late before snow?

Route to Texas.....where. I29 south to Kansas City I70 west to Topeka I335 southwest to Emporia I35 south.....as far as Laredo, but many other connections to other places. We USUALLY take I35 to I410 in San Antonio to I37 to US281 south to McAllen and then US 83 to Mission. Hope this helps Lou

RE: mission texas

The biggest down side we have seen, in driving by, is that there is a railroad track that is right next to the south side of the park. It looks like a nice place other than that. Lou

RE: Colorado 17 - The USA's straightest road?

Actually US 34 does go north and west out of Lincoln. However, the road itself continues west out of Lincoln as US 6 until it gets just north of Milford where it junctions with NE 15. There US 6 heads south and on to the west towards Hastings and NE 15 continues north to Seward and beyond. I am confused US 34 and US 6 are different streets in Lincoln, US 6 is Cornhusker Highway and US 34 is "O" Street. US 34 does cross under US 6 on the west side of Lincoln (actually I 180). US 34 continues west to Grand Island where it turns south and joins with US 281 to Hastings. In Hastings it joins with US 6 until just west of McCook, Nebraska. Now US 6 is pretty straigh and flat from west of Dorchester to Hastings, much more so than US 34. Lou

RE: Activities, Attractions, Dining, Rio Grande Valley TX 08-09

We can't wait to get back to Costa Messa in McAllen, Texas. 1621 North 11th Street. Best tex/mex IMHO and the service is great. If you are going for lunch go early as the crowds are big between 12 and 1.

RE: Colorado 17 - The USA's straightest road?

US 34 is fairly straight from Milford to Ne highway 79 which is west of Lincoln, then it becomes part of Interstate 180 and actually runs north/south until it hits "O" street (goes by the UNL football stadium)then once out of Lincoln it is fairly straight until it jogs north at US 75 and goes into Plattesmouth. I don't know about being able to see the curvature of the earth, it is mostly straight but does go up and down. That part of Nebraska is not flat, it is "rolling hills". I have driven that hunk of road thousands of times in the last 45 years. Lou

RE: 240 volts to the RV?

Even though nothing in my coach runs on 240 volts, the Energy Management System "looks" for the 240 volts to determine if we are plugged in to a 50 amp service, if it doesn't see it it will shut down equipment when we exceed 30 amps total. We were on a 50 amp service when we first bought it that was not 240 volts, but 120 volts (same phase to both legs) and the coach would manage the equipment as if we had a 30 amp service. Lou
